In 2002,
Applied Radiology
initiated its first Resident Writer contest, inviting radiology
residents to submit original manuscripts to compete for a
first-place educational stipend of $3000 and a second-place award
of $1000.
From the many manuscripts received, our reviewers selected the
six best-researched and best-presented articles for publication in
this special supplement to
Applied Radiology
. The first-place award went to Arastoo Vossough, PhD, MD, from the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, for
his article "Imaging Evaluation of Sensorineural Hearing Loss." The
second-place award went to Justin Q. Ly, MD, from the U.S. Air
Force Medical Center, Lackland AFB, TX, for his article, "MR
Imaging Findings of Rotator Cuff Pathology: A Pictorial
Review."
Applied Radiology
has long been dedicated to the dissemination of practical ideas
through articles that focus on the real-life, day-to-day issues of
radiologic practice. Residents have always represented an important
part of this focus, and they are, indeed, the cornerstone for the
next generation of radiologists. We are, therefore, proud to
include residents among our loyal readers and to support this
program that further acknowledges their important contributions to
the field.
