This monograph summarizes the fellows' individual and collective
experiences at the meeting and provides the reader with a sense of
optimism about the future of interventional cardiology. Although
each fellow clearly took his charge in earnest--to provide a
critical and reasoned overview of a designated area--special
recognition this year goes to Husam A. Noor, MD, for his article
"Current perspectives on carotid artery interventions." We also
congratulate the runner-up, Lee MacDonald, MD, of Northwestern
University; Dr. MacDonald's summary of the meeting's coverage of
the implications of guidelines for the management of patients with
acute coronary syndromes epitomizes the goals of this educational
program. Excellent papers on the state-of-the-art of gene therapy,
peripheral and neurovascular interventions, and closure devices for
septal defects also deserve special mention. It was a difficult
year for the selection committee!
We wish all the fellows participating in this year's meeting the
very best in their new venues and thank them for enhancing the
overall quality of this program.
