With this issue, I conclude twelve rewarding years as editor of Applied Radiology. My successor is Dr. Stuart E. Mirvis, Director of Emergency Radiology at the University of Maryland. Dr. Mirvis is an outstanding, broadly based radiologist who will certainly lead the journal to new accomplishments.

My tenure as editor has given me great satisfaction in leading
it to become one of the best-read radiologic journals in our
country. It has also provided me a bully pulpit in which I could
formulate and express some of my own philosophic concepts in the
form of editorials.
I am most grateful to our publisher, Oliver Anderson, for
choosing me for this task and for his support and encouragement
throughout my editorship. I must also express my appreciation to
the members of my editorial board who have helped immeasurably in
formulating editorial content. Thanks is also due to our readers
who have, by their support, made this a worthwhile undertaking.
For myself, I look forward to new endeavors, but in the words of
William Shakespeare, "Parting is such sweet sorrow."
