Imaging of the retrobulbar space

Retrobulbar lesions of the orbit should be evaluated with a systemic approach. The radiologist must have a thorough understanding of the compartmental anatomy of the orbit in order to choose the most appropriate imaging modality for the specific situation. In this article, the authors review the anatomy of the orbit, types of lesions that affect it, and characteristics of these lesions on imaging studies.
