All materials submitted to Applied Radiology must be original work and may not have been published elsewhere. Submissions should be review articles geared to the practitioner and should reflect practical everyday clinical applications, rather than research activity. Articles may pertain to clinical management, applications of a particular imaging modality, imaging of specific anatomic or disease states, or administration, fiscal, technical, and/or medicolegalissues. Scientific articles are not published in Applied Radiology.
Articles should be sent to:

Article Submission Requirements
Cover Page
The cover page should include the full title of the article as well as the following information:
Author Information
All authors should be listed, including full names, degrees, and current affiliations (department, institution/company, city, and state). for the corresponding author, provide full contact information: mailing address, phone and Fax numbers, and e-mail address.
Conflict of interest/author disclaimer
Any actual, potential, or apparent conflicts of interest must be stated on the cover page. All sources of financial support for the study presented or any author relationships with manufacturers of any products mentioned in the article must be stated.
Prior publication/presentation
If any part or portion of the article has been published or presented in another form previously (eg, published as an abstract or presented at a meeting), the original presentation must be identified with a complete citation.
Manuscript
Articles should be approximately 1,500 to 2,500 words in length and should include 4 or 5 keyword descriptors. Any manuscript that significantly exceedsthis length may be returned to the author for revision. The manuscript must be submitted to Dr. Mirvis as a Microsoft Word or compatible document file, saved on a CD-ROM or sent as an e-mail attachment (if the file size permits). Donot send image files via e-mail; see the figures section for instructions on how to submit images. Submit 2 print copies of the complete manuscript by mail: double-spaced, with liberal margins on all sides of the page, with all pages numbered. These hard copies must match the electronic copy.
References
As appropriate, information in the article should be referenced to the literature. Accuracy of all reference material is the responsibility of the authors. Reference citations in the text must be numbered sequentially in order of first appearance in the text. Do not list the references alphabetically. Reference numbers may be cited repeatedly in the text; however, all references must be cited at least once. Personal communications, articles not yet accepted for publication, and unpublished data should be cited parenthetically in text, not in the numbered reference list. References cited in tables or figures must be numbered according to the citation of the table or figure in the text.
References should be listed on a separate page, in numerical order, at the end of the article. Each journal reference must include the names of all authors (if there are more than 4 authors, list 3 authors and then add “et al”), complete article title, name of journal, volume number, issue number (if pages are not numbered sequentially throughout the volume), full inclusive page range, and an indication if it is a letter, editorial, or abstract. Use the reference style of Applied Radiology (examples below; for further examples, consult the AMA Manual of Style). Use the journal title abbreviations used by the National Library of Medicine inIndex Medicus and on Medline. If in doubt of the proper abbreviation, include the full journal title.

Figures
Articles should include no more than 20 individual images. All figures must be cited in the text and numbered in order of first appearance in the article (figure1, figure 2, etc). Digital images are preferred, but if hard copies must be submitted for scanning, all prints, drawings, and graphs must be at least 6 inches in width or height. Each image must be labeled with author name, figure number, and orientation (top, left, etc). Do not mount copies on paper or cardboard.
Digital Images
Each digital image must be saved as a separate file on a CD-ROM (separate from any text, including figure captions) in tiff or jpeg format at high resolution (300 dpi is ideal). A digital image should be approximately 5 inches wide. The file must be named by figure number and must consist of no more than 6 characters before the “.tif” or “.jpg” ending (eg, “fIG1A.tif” or with author initials added, “JRH1A.tif”). Your CD-ROM must be labeled with your name. Donot supply images taken from Web sites or images embedded in a Word or PowerPoint document, as doing so might not provide publication-quality images. Word or PowerPoint files with images may accompany the original image files, for reference only, in order to indicate necessary labels, arrows, or other markings that must be added to the images. If arrows or other identifiers are needed for the figure and are not included in the image file, indicate proper placement for reference on a hard copy. Electronic image files should be submitted on a CD-ROM. for additional questions regarding electronic submissions, contact the editorial office (908-301-1995).
Figure Legends
Each figure must have its own legend, which should clearly describe the appearance/relevance of the figure without unnecessary duplication of article text. Any abbreviation used (except “CT” or “MRI”) must be spelled out at first use in each caption. Each legend must identify each image included in the figure (figure1A, 1B, etc) as well as any abbreviations, arrows, or other markers included on the image.
Tables
All tables must be cited in text, numbered in order of first appearance in the article (Table 1, Table 2, etc). Tables should be submitted on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Indicate appropriate table title and define all abbreviations, symbols, and footnotes used.
Permission to Reprint
If any images, graphs, tables, etc in the submitted article are to be reprinted from another source, written permission must be obtained from the original publisher. Such permission must be requested before submission of the article to Applied Radiology and must be received before the article can be published.
Proper credit, as required by the owner of the copyright, must be indicated in the figure legend or table footnote. If you have any questions about this requirement, please contact Mark Palacio at mark@appliedradiology.com.
Product Information
Whenever an author has used specific products (scanner, contrast media, etc) to collect data or produce images used in the article, this must be indicated. The author must provide the brand name of the product, the name of the manufacturing company, and the company’s location. We request that the author also create a list of products (including the manufacturing companies and company locations) and include this list at the beginning or end of the manuscript file.
Copyright Assignment
Once an article is accepted for publication, all authors must sign the Copyright Assignment form. Accepted manuscripts become the property of the Anderson Publishing, Ltd., publisher of Applied Radiology. The assignment of rights to Anderson Publishing includes, but is not limited to, rights to edit, publish, reproduce, distribute copies, and publish in electronic form or on other media.
