The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM)/Amersham Health MRI Fellowship program, funded by an educational grant from Amersham Health and administered by Applied Radiology , was initiated to provide an important educational opportunity to radiology residents in the United States. Through this program, directors of radiology residency programs were invited to recommend radiology residents for participation in the program. From the nominated residents, the ISMRM selected ten finalists, who were funded to attend the Annual Meeting of the ISMRM. The selected attendees were then asked to write review articles, each focusing on an application of MRI assigned by the ISMRM Editorial Review Board. The material for each article came from the resident's review of the published literature, supplemented by the knowledge gained from the presentations made on his or her topic during the ISMRM Annual Meeting.

The ISMRM Editorial Review Board evaluated all the papers and selected Dr. Bernard Chow's article, "Magnetic resonance imaging of articular cartilage," as the best presented. Dr. Chow, a resident in Radiology at Brigham & Women's Hospital of the Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, is the fifth recipient of the ISMRM/Amersham Health Fellowship in MRI. Dr. Chow's article and the articles of the other residents are published in this supplement to Applied Radiology .

The ISMRM is pleased to participate in this program with Amersham Health and Applied Radiology . We congratulate Dr. Chow on his excellent work and look forward to his continuing contributions to magnetic resonance imaging.
