A 30-year-old Hispanic man with a history of asthma, allergic
pulmonary aspergillosis, and osteoporosis secondary to long-term
steroid use was admitted to the medical intensive care unit for
treatment of an asthma exacerbation. On day 3 of admission, the
patient suddenly developed generalized abdominal pain. His physical
examinations revealed generalized abdominal distention, diffuse
tenderness, and decreased bowel sounds. An abdominal obstruction
series with unenhanced computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen and
pelvis and an exploratory laparotomy followed. &amp;lt;/&amp;lt;span
