High field-strength magnets, improved sequences, and rapid imaging techniques continue to increase the technique’s utility in ways not before possible. This article describes several intrathoracic abnormalities in the fetus as examples of how MRI techniques enable more confident early diagnosis, facilitate patient counseling, and assist planning for fetal surgery. Fetal MRI enhances the radiologist’s ability to diagnose and communicate findings that benefit both patients and professional colleagues.
