In addition to the wealth of new applications emerging in neuroscience, psychiatry, neurology, and neurosurgery, recent work continues to be focused on technical developments to improve both sensitivity and specificity of the technique. This article reviews both traditional and emerging approaches to paradigm design and data analysis, with discussions of block and event-related experimental designs, preprocessing considerations, and hypothesis-driven and data-driven analysis techniques.
