The combination of breath-hold MR imaging with intravenous and intraluminal contrast agents provides images that capitalize on the superior contrast conspicuity of MRI to depict diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and the peritoneum. This article addresses clinical applications, MR protocols, and techniques for MR imaging of inflammatory, infectious, and ischemic intestinal diseases, as well as benign and malignant diseases of the peritoneum.
