Specifically, intra-arterial chemoembolization and direct tumor ablation with chemicals or thermal devices play an important part in the therapy of many oncologic patients. As these techniques become further developed, the interventional radiologist increasingly will be called upon to assist in the management of tumors, adding to the surgical, systemic chemotherapeutic, and radiation options currently available.
