Dr. Erin Simon Schwartz Named CHOP's Division of Neuroradiology Chief
Erin Simon Schwartz, MD, FACR, editor-in-chief of Applied Radiology, has been named chief of the Division of Neuroradiology in the Department of Radiology, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), effective November 1. Dr. Schwartz will also hold the Robert Zimmerman Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neuroradiology.
Dr. Schwartz finished her medical training in 1993 at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, followed by her radiology residency from 1993-1997 at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore. Dr. Schwartz completed a diagnostic neuroradiology fellowship in 1999 at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF), and worked as a clinical instructor from 1999-2000 in UCSF’s Division of Diagnostic Neuroradiology. She joined CHOP’s Division of Neuroradiology, Department of Radiology in 2000, where she has worked for the past 20 years. In 2007, Dr. Schwartz was named associate professor of radiology in the Clinician Educator track at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and is currently applying for promotion to Professor. She is the medical director of the Lurie Family Foundations’ Magnetoencephalography (MEG) Imaging Center at CHOP, a position she has held since 2008.
In 2015, she earned the Women in Neuroradiology Leadership Award from American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR), American Association of Women in Radiology, and the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Dr. Schwartz has vast clinical experience in pediatric neuroradiology including subspecialization in MEG and imaging of epilepsy. She is an outstanding teacher and a widely sought lecturer, with more than 160 invited lectures; she has organized a long array of educational meetings nationally and internationally. Dr. Schwartz has more than 100 publications. She is actively involved in many national and international professional societies and is a past president of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology, American Society of Spine Radiology and the Eastern Neuroradiological Society. She is currently the vice president of the ASNR ascending to president-elect/program chair in 2021, and president in 2022.
