Oliver Anderson, President & CEO of Anderson Publishing, Ltd. announced on July 2, 2019 that Erin Simon Schwartz, MD, FACR is the new Editor-in-Chief of Applied Radiology.

Dr. Schwartz is a Pediatric Neuroradiologist and Medical Director of the Lurie Family Foundations' Magnetoencephalography Imaging Center in the Department of Radiology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and an Associate Professor of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Schwartz has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Applied Radiology since 2007.

Applied Radiology is a journal that I’ve read for almost 25 years. I consider it even more relevant than ever for radiologists-in-training and those in clinical practice, as well as technologists, administrators and radiology assistants. It features an assortment of practical physician-authored clinical review articles and cases designed to keep us all current and mindful of best practices as well as abreast of the latest advances in technology,” says Dr. Schwartz. “I’m extremely grateful to Oliver and Kieran Anderson for giving me the opportunity to continue the work and honor the dedication that Dr. Stu Mirvis and others before him put into this very necessary journal in radiology.”

Dr. Schwartz succeeds Stuart E. Mirvis, MD, FACR, who led the editorial team of Applied Radiology since 2001 and has recently retired from clinical practice at The University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, MD. Dr. Mirvis said, “I’ve known Erin since she was a resident and I was a junior faculty member at the University of Maryland. She was then, and remains today, a dedicated, hardworking, inventive, and all-around gifted individual. I have no doubt she will bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to Applied Radiology.”  Kieran Anderson, Vice President & Group Publisher at Anderson Publishing added; “We are thrilled to have Dr. Schwartz expand her editorial role here at Applied Radiology and we look forward to working with her to continue the legacy of Dr. Mirvis and others before him.”  Kieran went on to say, “Dr. Mirvis and his Administrative Editor and wife, Linda Cohen Mirvis, will be greatly missed, but always remembered for their unwavering support of Applied Radiology and unrelenting emphasis on publishing quality clinical review content for the radiology community.”

Dr. Schwartz completed her medical school training at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA, her residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Maryland Medical System, Baltimore, MD, and her fellowship in diagnostic neuroradiology at the University of California, San Francisco, CA. She has also earned a Certificate in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety from the Center for Healthcare Improvement and Patient Safety at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.  Dr. Schwartz is board certified in diagnostic radiology with a certificate of added qualifications in neuroradiology.  Her areas of clinical expertise include pediatric neuroradiology and magnetoencephalography, and the imaging of patients with epilepsy, congenital central nervous system malformations, as well as fetal MRI. Her current research interests focus on patient safety, quality improvement, and physician wellness. In 2015, The Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology, along with the American College of Radiology and the American Association for Women Radiologists selected Dr. Schwartz as recipient of their annual Women in Neuroradiology Leadership Award.
