Bayer Presents Breakthroughs in MR Contrast and Connectivity in the CT Suite

Bayer is showcasing advancements across MR contrast media and CT injector technology that align closely with this year’s RSNA theme of Imaging the Individual. “Our commitment aligns with this theme because we know that, behind every scan, there is one person with questions, concerns and the need for clarity. We’re proud to play a role in helping people get clear answers about their health,” said Nelson Ambrogio, President, Radiology, Bayer.

New Pediatric Data for Gadoquatrane Low-Dose MR Contrast Agent

Bayer is presenting pediatric data around gadoquatrane, its investigational MR imaging agent being studied in the central nervous system (CNS) and other body regions in adults and pediatric patients, including neonates. This low-dose gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) features a distinct tetrameric structure with high stability and high relaxivity. Gadoquatrane has been accepted for review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. If approved, it would become the lowest dose macrocyclic GBCA available in the U.S. The submitted dose is 0.04 mmol gadolinium per kilogram body weight, corresponding to a 60% reduction compared to macrocyclic GBCAs dosed at 0.1 mmol Gd/kg body weight.

“Gadoquatrane is designed to cut the gadolinium dose by as much as up to 60% compared to other MR contrast agents,” said Konstanze Diefenbach, MD, Head of Radiology R&D, Bayer. “This could have an impact on patients with chronic diseases who require not just diagnostic scans, but multiple scans to follow treatment pathways.”

While adult data have been presented previously, RSNA marks the first scientific presentation of pediatric results, a population Dr Diefenbach emphasized is especially important. “Children are a vulnerable population. With this study, we can better understand how gadoquatrane behaves in children, and may assist in supporting clear answers about their health,” she said. Despite its lower dose, the agent maintains diagnostic performance. “Gadoquatrane has very high relaxivity, which delivers non-inferior image quality compared to other GBCAs. That’s the beauty of this molecule,” she said.

MEDRAD Centargo CT Injector

Bayer is also expanding the capabilities of its flagship CT injection system, the MEDRAD® Centargo multi-patient CT injector. Powered by Cortenic™ Connectivity, Centargo is a comprehensive solution for workflow efficiency, unlocking the full potential of the connected suite with integrated software, services, education and data. “Centargo is a faster, smarter and more sustainable injector that helps enhance connectivity in the CT suite to help simplify and automate workflows,” said Ambrogio.Centargo offers automated features, including quick change time between patient scans to streamline workflow and simple, snap-in patient line auto primes and is ready for the next patient in under 20 seconds. Multi-patient set-up process can be completed in under two minutes.

“The Centargo CT injection system helps reduce the burden on healthcare providers. It’s a multi-patient system that is very easy to use, and you can switch from one patient to the next much more easily. Now radiology suites will have the ability to manage even more contrast agents and presentations, which allows them to have greater flexibility,” said Dr Diefenbach.
