GE HealthCare Acquires SOFIE Biosciences, Strengthens PET Radiopharmaceutical Supply Chain
October 6, 2026 · News Release

GE HealthCare has announced its agreement to acquire SOFIE Biosciences, a prominent U.S.-based contract manufacturing organization (CMO) specializing in PET radiopharmaceuticals. The acquisition, valued at $945 million, aims to enhance GE HealthCare’s Pharmaceutical Diagnostics (PDx) segment by establishing a ‘final mile’ footprint in the U.S. radiopharmaceutical market. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2027, pending regulatory approvals.
With this acquisition, GE HealthCare will integrate SOFIE Biosciences’ network, consisting of 15 CMO sites operating 21 cyclotrons, into its operations. This move is anticipated to bolster GE's theranostics capabilities, expanding its presence across the radiopharmaceutical value chain from manufacturing to patient delivery.
The transaction grants GE HealthCare the U.S. rights to FAPI-74, a promising PET radiotracer currently in Phase III trials, with potential applications in broad cancer imaging. This asset is projected to propel GE HealthCare into high-growth segments within the PET imaging market, as the pipeline for radiotherapeutic products continues to expand.
SOFIE Biosciences will maintain its role as a vital manufacturing partner, supporting a wide array of products for its existing customer base. The company is expected to continue to operate independently, providing continuity in supply and services for its clientele. In reflecting on the acquisition, SOFIE’s co-founder and CEO, Patrick Phelps, emphasized the company's expansion under Trilantic North America and the potential benefits of aligning with GE HealthCare's vision for improved patient outcomes through radiopharmaceuticals.
Kevin O'Neill, President and CEO of GE HealthCare’s PDx segment, expressed optimism about the acquisition's potential to meet growing demand and improve patient access to innovative PET imaging solutions. "We look forward to leveraging our global expertise to further invest in SOFIE Biosciences, securing a reliable radiopharmaceutical supply chain," he said.
This strategic acquisition positions GE HealthCare to further integrate imaging and therapeutic solutions, reinforcing its commitment to advancing precision medicine and supporting new diagnostic and therapeutic developments.
The financial aspects of the deal are projected to be beneficial to GE HealthCare’s revenue growth and earnings, as the company continues to invest in expanding access to the existing and new F18 radiopharmaceutical products.
