Bracco Endorses ASNC on Cardiac PET with Myocardial Blood Flow for CAD Detection

April 13, 2026 · News Release

Bracco Imaging, NYU Langone Health Form Strategic Research Alliance to Drive Imaging Innovation

Bracco Group has declared its endorsement of the recent American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) position statement, which advocates for cardiac positron emission tomography (PET) with myocardial blood flow (MBF) measurement as the preferred method for diagnosing coronary artery disease (CAD). This recommendation highlights the significant advancements in cardiovascular imaging facilitated by cardiac PET.

The ASNC's updated guidance underscores the superior detection capabilities of cardiac PET in identifying heart disease compared to single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging. Cardiac PET's high diagnostic accuracy and ability to quantify blood flow enable effective risk stratification and facilitate the diagnosis of complex cases, including those involving obesity or anomalies in smaller blood vessels. The statement asserts that cardiac PET MPI should be considered for all patient groups due to its broad diagnostic capabilities.

Bracco has been a leader in advocating for this technology since 1989, focusing on easing access and ensuring appropriate reimbursement. Their portfolio includes Cardiogen-82, a rubidium Rb 82 generator used for myocardial perfusion imaging, and HeartSee, a platform for generating detailed Coronary Flow Capacity (CFC) maps. These tools aid physicians in evaluating disease severity using myocardial blood flow alongside traditional diagnostic data.

According to Dr. Nils Johnson, an interventional cardiologist, "Cardiac PET has long been the preferred choice for modern myocardial perfusion imaging." Fulvio Renoldi Bracco, CEO of Bracco Imaging, added, "The ASNC's endorsement affirms the comprehensive approach we have championed, integrating advanced PET imaging with blood flow quantification for improved diagnostic precision."

Bracco's commitment to advancing nuclear cardiology is reflected through innovations in diagnostic imaging and ongoing investment in clinical education and infrastructure.
