ECR 2027 Sees Record-Breaking Abstract Submissions
October 7, 2026 · News Release

The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) has announced a record number of abstract submissions for its 2027 meeting, totaling 10,442. This figure represents a 7 percent increase from the previous year's submissions, surpassing the 10,000 mark for the first time during the main submission phase.
Submissions were received from 110 countries, with China contributing the highest number of abstracts, followed by Italy, India, Türkiye, and Spain. Notably, there were substantial increases in submissions from Argentina (+84%), Ireland (+77%), Brazil (+72%), the United States (+68%), and Türkiye (+60%). This growth indicates a rising interest in participation at ECR, underscoring the congress’s expanding global relevance.
The significance of this record is accentuated by a 32 percent decrease in submissions originating from China, which has historically been a major contributor. Despite this decline, overall submissions increased, highlighting the diverse range of countries contributing to the ECR's international scientific community.
Additionally, the ECR Support Programme, Invest in the Youth, recorded a noteworthy rise in applications, emphasizing the congress's appeal to emerging radiology professionals and its role in supporting the next generation of radiologists globally.
Mathias Prokop, President of ECR 2027, noted, "ECR has become a truly global home for radiological science, and these results demonstrate the extraordinary reach our congress has achieved. To set a new record while seeing such strong growth across countries and continents shows that researchers increasingly see ECR as the place to present their work, exchange ideas and contribute to the future of medical imaging. That international momentum will be central to ECR 2027 and our theme, ‘Healthcare Reimagined.’"
These record figures further establish ECR’s position as a leader in international radiology, facilitating the gathering of researchers, clinicians, and imaging professionals worldwide to present new scientific findings and discuss the future of the discipline.
Abstract submitters will receive notifications regarding their acceptance status in December.
