Microbubble Partnership Aims to Expedite Focused Ultrasound Research
August 26, 2026 · News Release

The Focused Ultrasound Foundation has partnered with Bracco Imaging to expand access to the research version of Bracco's SonoVue microbubble formulation, known as BR1. This partnership is designed to accelerate preclinical research using focused ultrasound technology worldwide.
Focused ultrasound techniques, aided by microbubbles, are showing promise in treating a range of conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases, brain tumors, mental health disorders, and solid tumors. The agreement between the two organizations provides researchers involved in Focused Ultrasound Foundation-backed projects with efficient access to Bracco's proprietary microbubbles at a standardized rate, streamlining the research process.
Initially, microbubbles were developed to enhance diagnostic imaging. However, their ability to create biological effects when oscillating due to ultrasound waves has broadened their application. Key areas of focus now include blood-brain barrier modulation and targeted drug delivery. By increasing access to this crucial research tool, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation and Bracco aim to stimulate further scientific inquiry and foster innovation in therapeutic ultrasound applications.
Lauren Hadley, MD, MBA, Associate Director of the Foundation's Research and Education Team, stated, "One of the Foundation’s core priorities is identifying and removing barriers that slow the pace of innovation. By improving access to a critical research reagent, this partnership will allow investigators to focus on what matters most—advancing discoveries that have the potential to improve patient care."
Victor Jeannot, PharmD, PhD, EMBA, R&D Program Manager at Bracco, added, "Bracco is committed to providing high-quality microbubble reagents to support preclinical studies sponsored by the Focused Ultrasound Foundation. Through this collaboration, leading research centers will gain access to Bracco’s microbubble technology and dedicated technical support."
