Philips and Imricor Introduce Innovative Cardiac iMR Lab Solution
August 27, 2026 · News Release

Philips, a leader in health technology, has partnered with Imricor Medical Systems to introduce an advanced Interventional MR (iMR) lab solution, integrating Philips' high-performance 1.5T MRI platform with Imricor's MR-compatible systems for cardiac interventions. This collaboration marks a significant step in expanding the use of MRI technology from diagnostic to therapeutic cardiovascular applications.
Cardiac arrhythmias affect millions globally, often requiring catheter ablation as treatment. Traditionally, these procedures rely on x-ray fluoroscopy, which poses the risk of radiation exposure and provides limited soft tissue visualization. MRI, renowned for its detailed imaging capabilities, offers a radiation-free alternative that enhances tissue insight. The new iMR lab solution aims to bring these diagnostic advantages into the intervention room.
"The ability to guide therapies precisely within a radiation-free environment presents a compelling advancement in cardiac care," stated Ioannis Panagiotelis, PhD, Business Leader, Magnetic Resonance at Philips. "Through our partnership with Imricor, we are extending the role of cardiac MRI from mere diagnosis to an integral part of the treatment process."
The iMR lab configuration encompasses Philips' Cardiac MR Suite, which includes SmartHeart AI-powered cardiac planning and advanced imaging applications. These are paired with Imricor's NorthStar® iMR mapping system, Advantage-MR® EP Recorder/Stimulator, and Vision-MR® electrophysiology catheters. Together, these components allow clinicians to perform precise electroanatomical mapping and assess treatment impacts in real-time.
For healthcare facilities, the iMR lab solution offers a comprehensive platform designed for MR-guided cardiac interventions. This is facilitated by Philips' BlueSeal helium-free MRI technology, which simplifies installation and brings imaging capabilities closer to cardiology departments.
"This collaboration with Philips aligns with our shared vision to move MR imaging into procedure rooms, creating state-of-the-art interventional solutions," noted Steve Wedan, Founder and CEO of Imricor. "By merging Philips' expertise in MR platforms with Imricor's specialized systems, we introduce the world's first high-performance iMR lab solution. Our goal is to provide advanced imaging for therapies, marking a new era in interventional MR."
Currently, the iMR lab solution is commercially available in CE-marked markets and certain configurations in the U.S. Future configurations are anticipated, pending regulatory clearances, to widen availability.
