Royal Philips, a leader in health technology, and WellSpan Health, a prominent health care provider in Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland, have initiated a strategic seven-year alliance aimed at advancing diagnostic and imaging technologies within community health. This collaboration will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative technology to enhance care delivery across the region.
Roxanna Gapstur, Ph.D., R.N., President and CEO of WellSpan Health, emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting its potential to harmonize technology implementation and support system-wide consistency. "This collaboration gives us that foundation, bringing consistency and coordination across our entire system, advancing digital and AI-enabled care and building a leading research and co-development platform that will transform the future of health care," Gapstur stated. This initiative aligns with WellSpan's mission to position community health systems at the forefront of health care innovation.
The alliance is set to spearhead a unique research agreement that will explore the performance of new technologies and tools. A primary objective is to improve throughput, cost efficiency, and workflow, assisting WellSpan in reclaiming significant workforce time. Furthermore, WellSpan and Philips will co-develop new health care products and features, taking advantage of Philips' research and development resources.
A long-term commercial agreement designates Philips as the preferred vendor for imaging modalities, ensuring technological consistency across WellSpan’s 12 hospitals and imaging centers. This agreement facilitates a structured lifecycle management approach, which aims to streamline equipment, service, training, and upgrades, thus enhancing patient access to diagnostic imaging services.
Roy Jakobs, CEO of Royal Philips, described the alliance as an extension of the existing relationship with WellSpan. He highlighted the combined expertise in health technology and clinical research as central to achieving measurable improvements in patient care quality and operational performance. "By combining our health technology leadership with WellSpan’s clinical expertise and research focus, we’re creating a long-term alliance designed to drive measurable improvements in patient care quality, operational performance, and innovation," according to Jakobs.
This partnership is set to redefine patient care and operational management, serving as a model for innovation in community health systems. The initiatives undertaken by WellSpan and Philips are poised to shape the future landscape of health care delivery through AI-driven and platform-based approaches.
