The American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) has named Dhairya A. Lakhani, MD, from the West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, as the 2027 Melvin M. Figley Fellow in Radiology Journalism. Additionally, Francesca Castagnoli, MD, of The Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK, has been designated as the 2027 Lee F. Rogers International Fellow in Radiology Journalism.

Funded by The Roentgen Fund®, these fellowships honor two former editors of the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) and provide practicing radiologists with valuable insights into medical publishing through hands-on experience with ARRS Publications and Marketing staff and the Roentgen Ray Review. Fellows will engage in an apprenticeship with AJR Editor-in-Chief Andrew Rosenkrantz, receiving guidance in scientific writing, manuscript preparation, peer review, journalism ethics, and digital publishing.

Both fellows will participate in the 2027 ARRS Annual Meeting in Denver, CO, where they will co-present the Radiology Year in Review session and take part in the Editor’s Forum.

AJR, founded in 1907, is a leading peer-reviewed journal in radiology, publishing a variety of clinically relevant content across all imaging modalities that support daily practice. The journal produces hundreds of articles each year, including original research, reviews, and editorials, and maintains a broad engagement with its audience through social media and digital communications.

Since its inception in 1990, The Roentgen Fund has disbursed millions in funding to advance both research and professional development for imaging professionals. Through a range of scholarships and fellowships, it aims to foster innovation and leadership among a diverse next generation of radiology.

Dhairya A. Lakhani, MD, serves as an Associate Professor of Radiology, Neurology, and Neurosurgery at the West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. He is Vice Chair of Clinical Research and Medical Director of Informatics, having completed his medical education in India and advanced training in the United States. His research focuses on diagnostic imaging biomarkers for neurovascular disorders, and he is active in medical publishing as Deputy Editor for Images in Radiology.

Francesca Castagnoli, MD, is a Consultant Radiologist at The Royal Marsden Hospital and Honorary Associate Faculty at The Institute of Cancer Research in London. She specializes in oncological imaging, particularly in melanoma and colorectal cancer, and holds an advanced degree in imaging from the University of London. Dr. Castagnoli participates actively in teaching and mentoring and has received recognition as the 2027 ESGAR Rising Star Award recipient.
